Bio

Eoin Ducrot is one of the most exciting Irish violinists of his generation. During his time studying In Ireland, France and Switzerland Mr. Ducrot has become an all rounded experienced performer, of solo, chamber music and contemporary repertoire.

 

Mr. Ducrot is a prizewinner at several international and national competitions such as Rahn Kultur Wettbewerb, Dienemann Stiftung Wettbewerb and B.O.G Stiftung Wettbewerb and has won numerous more prizes with his ensemble. These prizes include “Ysaye International Competition”, “International Chamber Music Competition” in Pinerollo, Torino, Credit Suisse Jeune Solistes Competition, International Bacewicz Chamber music Competition and Orpheus Competition.

 

Mr. Ducrot has an official Duo with Italian pianist Chiara Opalio, with whom he won 1st prize in the HSM Duo-Wettbewerb. They perform concerts regularly around Europe and are often praised for their sensibility and subtlety combined with impeccable togetherness and risk taking flair. They were personally invited by Sir András Schiff for the Beethoven festival in Bonn in June 2019.

 

As Founder and 1st violinist of the “Opalio Quintet” ensemble Mr. Ducrot has performed concerts throughout Europe in festivals and theatres such as, Davos Festival, Festival Muikdorf Ernen, Altstadtserenaden Basel, Engadin Festival, Mezzano Romantico, Adelboden Swiss Chamber Music Festival, Teatro Lorenzo da Ponte, Jeudis Musicales de Carcassonne. He has also been invited as an open chamber music player to prestigious festivals such as Davos Festival, West Cork Chamber Music Festival, Golden Festival Zurich, Alpenarte, Spotlight Chamber Music and KlangBasel. Eoin is co-artistic director of the Vittorio Veneto Chamber Music Festival since 2022.

 

Mr. Ducrot has performed as a soloist with orchestras such as Sinfonieorchester Basel, Kölner Orchester-Gesellschaft, CSM Symphony Orchestra, and Orchestra du Cnr de Nantes.

 

As an active enthusiast of contemporary music Mr. Ducrot has premiered many works such as “Auff schritt und Tritt” by Stephanie Haensler, which was dedicated to Opalio Quintet, Inter(re)actions by Adam Hovhannisyan dedicated to Opalio Trio, and Heterotones by Keitaro Takahashi. In 2011 at age 17 Eoin received incredible reviews for his premiere of Sam Perkin's 2nd Violin Concerto “Voice", dedicated to Eoin Ducrot.

 

Mr Ducrot is a guest player in Tonhalle Orchester Zurich and held a temporary position in the orchestra for the 21/22 season. Eoin has worked with the Irish Chamber Orchestra and has been invited as guest Concertmaster in orchestras such as “Le Foyer des Artistes”, “Aurora Festival Orchestra” in Sweden and the Basel Hochschule Orchestra. He has worked under the baton of conductors such as Paavo Järvi, Gábor Takács Nagy, Gábor Káli, and Johannes Gustavsson.

 

Eoin completed both his Performance Masters, and his Specialised Soloist Masters with unanimous maximum marks. He continued with post graduate studies in the class of Guy Braunstein as well as regular masterclasses with Leonidas Kavakos at HSM Basel. He has worked with world renowned musicians such as András Schiff, Midori, Sarah Chang, Ferenc Rados, Ana Chumachenko, Dénes Várjon, Rainer Schmidt and members of Hagen, Casals, Kelemen, Danish, Doric, Zemlinsky, Danel and Vanbrugh quartets amongst many others.

 

Eoin is currently working as the assistant of Prof. Raphael Oleg at the Hochschüle in Basel. He is also studying baroque violin with Amandine Beyer.
